School Tour Facts

Scheduling of school tours must be made a month in advance, all others - 1 week in advance.

Time: Starts anytime after 9 AM up to 1 PM
Site closed to tours at 3:00 PM

Cost: $10 a head (students, parents, and teachers)


Benefits:
intro lecture
self guided tour
hands on: tool table - learn how to identify artifacts
Excavate in mock pits
Photograph and fill out level forms to take home
if time permits:
Flint knapping demonstration
Atlatl toss
Rabbit stick toss


Bring:

Desert Art Day

Time: 9 am to 3 pm

Cost: $15/person

Benefits:
learn how to paint prehistoric tools and nature with acrylics

Bring:
snacks and water

Provided by Calico:
all paint material and tools are provided
picnic tables are available
water, soda and chips available for a fee


Family Hike and Dig Day

time: 9 am - 3 pm

Cost: $10 per person, young or old. No children under 5 permitted (5 or older)

Benefits:
intro lecture
self guided tour
hands on: tool table - learn how to identify artifacts

Photograph and fill out level forms to take home

Learn flint knapping for adult only

Knap-in at Calico

time: for camping (Friday through Sunday)

Cost: $5 a night per person

Benefits:
Knap to your hearts content
bring your own table for displays/sales
(Calico will not be responsible for lost/stolen items so you might want to bring a partner with you.)

food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if camping out

Provided by Calico: a campfire at night (bring your guitars, flutes, etc.) picnic table are available BBQ grills at the campground (wood is available but if you want charcoal, bring it) chips/coffee/water/soda available for a fee


Bring Your Camera Day

Time: 10 am to noon, 1 - 3 pm

Cost: $15 per camera

Benefits:
expert photographer to give lecture in the morning
How to photograph nature (the wild flowers will be out)
Tips to photographing in a natural setting
